Clopay opener logic board repair in Houston typically costs $120 – $320 installed, and we carry compatible boards on our trucks so most jobs are done the same day. The logic board is the printed circuit panel inside the opener’s power head – the part that reads the signal from your remote, checks the safety sensors, and tells the motor when to run. When it fails, you’ll usually notice the wall button still glows but the door won’t budge, or the opener only moves a few inches before reversing. If you’re seeing that, call us at (903) 989-4180 and we’ll get a technician out with the right part.
Most Houston homeowners don’t know their opener has a logic board until it quits. It’s the least visible, least understood component in the whole door system – but it’s also one of the most common failures we see, especially on units over eight years old in humid garages. Marcus Ellery and our crew have replaced enough Clopay boards across Houston – from Meyerland to Memorial Park to the neighborhoods off Beltway 8 – to know exactly what fails and why, and we’ll tell you straight before we ever pick up a screwdriver.
Which Clopay Models This Applies To
Clopay openers are built in two main series: the Classic series (belts and chains) and the newer Pro series, which adds battery backup and Wi-Fi capability on some models. The logic board is not universal across them. A Classic-series board won’t fit a Pro-series power head, and within the Pro line, the board changed between the first generation and the current second-generation units. If your opener was installed before 2018, you almost certainly have a first-generation Pro board, which uses different connectors than what Clopay sells today.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into constantly in Houston: a board listed for the “Pro series” may be a second-generation part, and it won’t seat into an older power head without an adapter harness that Clopay no longer ships. Rather than order a board online and discover the connector doesn’t match, call us. We’ll pull the model number from the side of the power head – it starts with “CL” followed by four digits on most units – and match it to a Clopay OEM board or a quality aftermarket equivalent that we’ve verified fits that exact model. Independent service providers like us are not affiliated with Clopay, but we know their parts because we work on them every week.

Signs Your Clopay Opener Logic Board Is Failing
- Wall button lights up, remote doesn’t work, door doesn’t move. The board receives power but isn’t processing the open command. This is the classic first symptom: everything looks normal, nothing happens.
- The door starts, travels a foot or two, then reverses on its own. When the board misreads the force-sensing circuit, it thinks the door hit something and reverses as a safety default. The sensors on the floor are usually fine – the board’s interpretation is not.
- The remote range drops from 50 feet to right-under-the-opener. The receiver circuit is part of the logic board. As capacitors age in Houston humidity, signal sensitivity fades. A fresh battery in the remote doesn’t fix it.
- The opener runs after the door is already up or down. The board’s limit-switch logic fails to register the door’s position, so the motor keeps running against a stopped door. That burn-and-grind sound is your motor wearing itself out.
- The opener works sometimes, not others, with no pattern. Cracked solder joints on the board expand and contract with heat. Garages in Houston regularly hit 100 degrees in summer, and that thermal cycling causes intermittent failures that a simple reboot won’t solve.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Clopay opener logic board replacement in Houston runs $120 – $320 installed, parts and labor included. The spread depends on which board your specific model needs: Classic-series boards run on the lower end, second-generation Pro boards on the higher end, and first-generation Pro boards with the adapter harness in between. We’ll give you the exact price before any work begins – that’s the Kingswell way, and it’s been our standard since 2001.
Every board we install is either a Clopay OEM part or a quality aftermarket equivalent from a manufacturer we’ve vetted. We don’t use refurbished boards pulled from broken openers, because in Houston’s humidity, a board with years of corrosion doesn’t owe you much. Here’s exactly what you get with the price: the board itself, installation in your existing power head, reprogramming of your remotes and keypad, a full test cycle under load, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If that board fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and replace it at no charge. The number you hear on the phone is the number on the invoice – not a penny more.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest answer: a logic board swap involves 120-volt house power, a dozen small-gauge wires, and a programming sequence that’s easy to get wrong. The cover comes off the power head and you’re looking at live AC terminals. If you’re not certain which terminals are hot, that’s the moment to stop. We’ve been called to Houston garages after a homeowner shorted a board they bought online and fried the motor control as well – turning a $280 job into a $550 opener replacement.
What you can safely check first: is the opener plugged into a working outlet? A tripped GFCI in a garage outlet will kill the whole unit and costs nothing to reset. Are the safety sensors at the bottom of the door aligned, facing each other, with no cracked lenses? Beyond that, the board itself is a component swap best left to someone who does it weekly. We stock Clopay boards on the truck and most repairs are done in a single visit. Call (903) 989-4180 and we’ll talk you through what you’re seeing before we even schedule the truck.
FAQs
A Clopay logic board typically lasts 8 to 12 years, though Houston heat and humidity can shorten that to 6 or 7 years when the opener is mounted in an uninsulated, west-facing garage. The boards we install are covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing.
In almost every case, no. Failed relays, cracked solder joints, and corroded traces on a logic board are not economically repairable – the labor to diagnose and rework a board exceeds the cost of a new one. The exception is a dead coin-cell battery on older boards that store memory, which we’ll diagnose in minutes and fix for a small service charge if that’s all it is. Call (903) 989-4180 and we’ll tell you which situation you have before any work starts.
A Clopay logic board replacement usually takes 45 to 75 minutes from the time we open the power head to a full test cycle with your remotes reprogrammed. Expect us within the arrival window we give you when you call, and expect the job site left cleaner than we found it.
Yes. Our trucks carry Clopay Classic and Pro-series boards, plus compatible aftermarket equivalents, so we’re usually able to complete the repair in one visit. We also carry boards for LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie openers, in case the opener in your second bay is a different brand.
